I, Jenny, have been editing more this season than I have in the past. I have picked up a couple of projects to do, and have been enjoying the work. Here is one of the videos I did recently for a church missionary training course.

This particular group sent me their video clips, photos, and scripts with the voice overs. I put it all together for them. If you are interested in having me do similar work, please feel free to contact me at secondthiefmedia@gmail.com. I do charge a fee for my time, so when you inquire, please include details of your project as well as a timeline for when you want it completed.

Thanks so much for watching!

The students first chose a story that we found was not really adaptable to the limitations of our filming. They wanted to do a story that had a lot of wars and the like. I am not opposed to filming a war movie, it was simply a matter of being on a very small budget and limited in our cast members.

So, the students chose a parable: the one about the Two Sons, one who went to the field after saying “no” and the other one who said he would go to the field and then never went. The filming was very short for this year, and the students already began editing last Monday.

I have been pleased with their work overall-I am pleasantly surprised to find they really enjoy editing and are skilled at it. It is satisfying to me as a teacher to see students jump right in, and enjoy the work while learning.

I will post the movie here when it is complete. It is not as complex as our other films have been, but it is good for beginners.

We have been working on getting a story together. Once again, we have turned to the Bible to find a story to recreate. I work hard to communicate to my students, each year, that we do not have to make a “Christian” movie, per sey. We can certainly look towards having a solid story on our own, that will reflect principles that will cause others to consider where do solid principles come from. However, I am finding that with only a few students (and only two, at that) coming up with a story is very difficult. I am thinking of changing the order of things a bit next year, and incorporating more story creation earlier in the year.

That being said, the girls wanted to do a story based on the story of the judge Deborah. We have not been successful in this endeavor, despite a fair amount of work going into it. They recently asked me if we could change over to the parable of the two sons-one who obeyed, and one who did not. It is going to be a bit of a crunch, time wise, to get this done, but I think we can do it. It is a simpler story, and should go well.

More later!

This year, I have two students to teach in the film class, and I am finding it a challenge. They are both good students, who are eager to learn, yet with two it is not easy to figure out how to write and produce a film. We are working on it, and will see how that goes.

In other news, we have only one computer this year. This is mostly because the ones we used last year are only 40GB, and we found they were too limited for film projects. So, the girls in my class shared the computer for their first editing projects with photos and music. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that because they had to communicate together to edit, they were able to get to know one another a bit more. I think that will help when the time comes for the movie. :)
