Filming is done!

The filming of the movie is done, and we surely had a good time doing it. There was really good input from all the students, which is always helpful.

This year, the students (all but one) are doing their editing on their own home computers. This can bring some issues to the forefront when learning to edit, but overall, this class is doing very well.

I will post our movie when we are done.

Script is done…

The students did a great job on the script. I took a little different approach this year, and asked them to script together. The last couple of years I have either had one student write it, or they all write one and I merge them together.

However, I was thinking about working to build a community mindedness among the students. With the co-0p having provided a laptop this year, I was able to have the students work with Celtx together. It went well.

So, the script is done, and now onto filming. We are in the middle of our Hitchcock studies, so we will begin filming in a couple of weeks. :)

2010-2011 School year

This year has been going by quickly!

We have four students this year, and they are all enthusiastic participants in the class. We have already done one editing project, and one of my students had done editing so he chose to do a stop action film. That was fun, and I am so glad we have such enthusiasm!

We have already started on the storyline for this year’s film. I did require all the students to come up with two story lines each, instead of waiting for only one or two students to come up with it. There were many great ideas thrown around the classroom, and we have settled on a very creative take on a portion of “The Hobbit”. I am looking forward to the production beginning, even though we only have the storyline for now. We will start scripting soon.

Chose the story, and have already completed filming

The students first chose a story that we found was not really adaptable to the limitations of our filming. They wanted to do a story that had a lot of wars and the like. I am not opposed to filming a war movie, it was simply a matter of being on a very small budget and limited in our cast members.

So, the students chose a parable: the one about the Two Sons, one who went to the field after saying “no” and the other one who said he would go to the field and then never went. The filming was very short for this year, and the students already began editing last Monday.

I have been pleased with their work overall-I am pleasantly surprised to find they really enjoy editing and are skilled at it. It is satisfying to me as a teacher to see students jump right in, and enjoy the work while learning.

I will post the movie here when it is complete. It is not as complex as our other films have been, but it is good for beginners.
