Wrapping up the ’08-’09 school year

Filed under : film class, projects

We have now wrapped up this school year.

After the filming was finished, two of my students were able to do their editing during our class time. We did have some technical difficulties to overcome, due to the fact that we found out the computers we had would not handle the video files, but found we could use two computers we had here at my house.  So, we would bring those in, and the students edited on those.  These computers were better, although I do think they were a little slow, but they worked.

My third student, a young man who had already edited videos before, finished up the year editing at his own home.  Our class uses Windows Movie Maker in the actual classroom, but this young man had an opportunity to use Adobe Premier because it was what he had been using at home.  I believe it was a great chance for the students to all see how differently each person not only edits, but also what portions of the storytelling does each individual find key to the point of the story.  (I will post the You Tube version, when I have it ready to upload from here, so you can watch for that link!)

For the school year, I believe it was another successful year.  The students enjoyed it overall, I thought, and we had some great input on the movies we watched.  I always like it when a student will bring up something in a film, a new thought I had not had about the storyline, writing, plot, music, etc.  It is a blessing to see these students engage in thoughtful, relevant conversation about film, and to see them learn about film and our culture.

That is it for this year-onto planning for next!  Thanks for stopping by!
